Orem-Geneva Times Wednesday, January 26. 1994 Page 5 Obituaries at Utah Valley State Collcg Tom Keele selected as UVSC "Employee of Dona Blackett Baker Dona Blackett Baker, age 85, of Springville, died Saturday, January 22, 1994, at Mountain View Hospital. She was born August 25, 1908, in Springville, to John William and Ag-ripss Edwards Blackett. She married James Merle Baker June 7, 1926, in Springville. The marriage was later solemnized in the Provo LDS Temple.

He died in 1977. She is survived by two sons, including John Baker and wife Karen of Orem; three daughters; a daughter -in-law; a twin sister, Dora Bullock of Tooele; 32 grandchildren; 81 greatgrandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held January 25, 1994, in the Springville LDS Stake Center under the direction of the Wheeler Mortuary. Burial was in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery. Rachel Knudson Buller Rachel Knudson Buller, age 75, of Orem, died January 21, 1994, at her home in Orem.

John Henry (Jack) Smeath John H. Smeath, 90, of Springville, died January 20, 1994, of cardiac arrest. He was born March 18, 1903, in Montpelier, Idaho, to James Charles and Frances Mae Brown Smeath. He married Alice Delores Anderson in the Salt Lake Temple on October 10, 1928. She died October 9, 1961.

He married Neva Kindred on December 25, 1962, in Los Angeles, Calif. He is survived by his wife, Neva, a son, J. Boyd Smeath of Orem, and three daughters. He is also survived by one sister and two brothers, 19 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were January 24, 1994, in the Hobble Creek Third Ward in Springville under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary.

Burial was in the Provo City Cemetery. the Year" Tom Keele was selected as the 1993 PACE employee of the year by PACE (Professional Administration and Classified Employees), an organization consisting of all UVSC non-faculty employees. Announcement of the honor was made by Kerry D. Romesburg, president of Utah Valley State College, at the employee Christmas party on Dec. 17.

"I was shocked and flattered to be recognized," said Keele. Peers were asked to consider attitude, human relations, performance, leadership, and cooperation when voting. "I have known Tom for a number of years. He has always been a professional who truly enjoys Betty Jeanne Powelson Shinn Betty Jeanne Powelson Shinn, 70, of Orem and former resident of Fort Collins, Colorado, died January 17, 1994, in Pleasant Grove, Utah. She was born April 15, 1923 in South Haven, Kansas, a daughter of J.

Kelly and Viola Marie Harshman Powelson. She married Richard Douglas Shinn in 1940 at Twin Falls, Idaho. They were later divorced. Marian S. Nibley Marian Smith Nibley, age 77, of Orem, died January 19, 1994, at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, Utah.

She was born March 6, 1916, in Springfield, 111., the daughter of Raymond and Maude Davis Smith. She married Charles W. Nibley III on January 2, 1941, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. Her husband preceded her in death on September 11, 1978. Marian lived 16 years of her young adult life in Hawaii.

She served with her husband as the Southern States Mission president in Atlanta, Georgia, from 1968-1970, after which they lived in Los Angeles until moving to Utah in 1977. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in various positions in the Relief Society. She was also a Provo Temple worker. Surviving family members include one son and two daughters: Charles W. Nibley IV (Nancy) of Los Angeles, Jean Hendley of Jackson, and Chris Jones (Bruce) of Salt Lake City, and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 22, 1994, at the Sharon Stake Center in Orem under the direction of Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary. Burial was in' the Orem City Cemetery. V. Oweneva G. Aguerrebere Vera Oweneva Green Aguerre-berrej 73, died January 21, 1994, in Provo of cancer.

She was born February 4, 1920, in Manila, Daggett County, Utah, to John Andrews and Maud Twitchell Green. She married Joseph A. Aguerrebere May 14, 1943, in Los Angeles, Calif. He died Oct. 4, 1988.

She is survived by two brothers and three sisters, including Shirley Cook of Orem, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were January 25 in the American Fork 13th Ward under the direction of Anderson Sons Mortuary. Further services and burial will follow in Reno, Nevada, on January 27. Death Notice Louise Harris, 80, of Orem, died Jan. 23, 1994.

Services will be announced by Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, Orem. working with students and assisting them with career goals. He spends extraordinary time in student development," said Thomas Hover, dean of student life. "He is certainly deserving of the award." Keele, director of career support services, has been at UVSC for 16 years. His department umbrellas the career center, alcohol and drug education, services for students with disabilities and the minoritymulti-cultural counseling program.

Keele also does individual counseling. "I appreciate my job," said Keele. "I enjoy the associations I have with faculty and staff. UVSC is a great place to work." Keele received his bachelor's degree in secondary speech and English education and his master's in family and marriage counselingguidance counseling at Brigham Young University. He has taught school, worked as a counselor, helped set up an alcohol prevention program, and worked for LDS Social Services.

President Romesburg also recognized the following fall 1993 "Employees of the Maria Zabrodsky Johnson, academic affairs; Jim Michaelis, administration and institutional advancement; Marilyn Mansfield, presidentstudent services. was born June 2, 1918, in Provo, Utah, daughter of Arthur Mathias and Alice Hatton Knudson. She arried Erwin A. Buller on January 10, 1944, in Provo, Utah. She graduated from Provo High School.

She was employed as a bookkeeper for the DTR Company and also as a bookkeeper for Bearl Sprott Company during the construction of Geneva Steel Plant. She worked for Defense Plant Corporation and worked for Kaiser Steel. Her hobbies included ceramics, traveling, and photography. She is survived by her husband of Orem; one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Joyce) Garner of Orem; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister: Arthur Knudson and Alice Lucille Knudson. Funeral services will be held today, January 26, 1994, at 11:00 a.m. in the Berg Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center Provo. Friends may call at the mortuary one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery.

Since 1974, she had resided in Fort Collins before moving to Orem with her sister in 1993. She had been a member of the Fort Collins Doll Club. She loved life and was an avid antique collector.

She did beautiful handwork and was a compassionate service giver. She gave home and comfort to many university students in Fort Collins. Survivors include two sons: Herman Kelly Shinn and Norman Douglas Shinn, both of Fort Collins; a brother and two sisters: Harold D. Powelson, Dorothy Mae Mathis and Belton Porter, both of Sacramento, California; Maxine P. and Robert H.

Davis, Orem; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, William Shinn; a brother, Robert Powelson; and a sister, Agnes Marie Mathis. Funeral services were held January 20 in the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial and additional services were held in Fort Collins, Colorado. Elvera Watson Bishop Elvera Watson Bishop, age 91, of Payson (West Mountain), Utah, died January 18, 1994, in Las Vegas, Nevada, after a short illness while visiting her son, Lee.

She was born June 9, 1902, at Charleston, Utah, the daughter of Harry F. and Ella Murdock Watson, one of 11 children. She graduated from Wasatch High School and later graduated from the Brigham Young Academy, earning her teaching certificate. Vera taught school in Walls-burg, Delta, and Hinkley. She married James Delbert Bishop July 29, 1925, in the Logan LDS Temple.

He died February 7, 1979. They lived for a short time in Idaho and later moved to Orem where they bought and operated a fruit farm. In 1943, they moved to Payson and lived to the time of her death. She was active in the LDS Church and helped organize the first Jr. Sunday School in Payson.

She worked on the first building committee and fund raising for the West Ward Chapel. She worked in the Provo LDS Temple for 12 years. She was a member of the DUP. Elvera lived and cared for her own home until about a year ago when she spent time with her sons. She was always serving others, and was known for her caring personality and sense of humor.

She was everybody's Grandma or Grandma Great. She is survived by four sons: J. Lee and Noreen Bishop, Overton, Nevada; Dan L. and Marjorie D. Bishop, Payson (West Mountain), Utah; Robert W.

Bishop, Clovis, New Mexico; Lloyd D. and Nancy Bishop, Orem, Utah; 25 grandchildren; 77 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Thalia Thacker, Clearfield, Utah. She was preceded in death by one son, Jack. Funeral services were January 22 in the West Ward Chapel in Payson, under the direction of the Walker Mortuary. Roy Asa Strong Rdy Asa Strong, loving, generous father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center January 17, 1994.

He was born July 27, 1911, in Springville, a son of Asa and Florence Victoria Larsen Strong. He married Helen Lucille Penrod August 3, 1933, in the Logan LDS Temple. She preceded him in death. He is survived by three sons, including Robert M. (Keira) Strong, of Orem; a sister; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held January 20, 1994, in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Springville. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery. She later worked with her husband and son in their business, Chris Conoco, as bookkeeper for many years. She was a member of the LDS Church, living in the Provo 4th Ward. She was a very loving and caring mother. Her children always came first. She is survived by two daughters and a son: Joyce (Grant) Peterson, Boise, Idaho; Judy Frampton, Salt Lake City; William C.

Christiansen, Tallahassee, Florida; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Olpin, Salt Lake City. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Norman L. Christiansen. Services were held January 21 at the Provo 4th Ward. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove.
